Badminton NL is pleased to announce the 2012 Eastern Open to be held on January 28, 2012 at St. Kevin's High, Goulds, NL. The entry deadline is 6 pm, Friday, January 20, 2012.
The tournament will be an LTAD event in which participants will compete in round robin pools.
- All 15 Open events will use a round robin pool format.
- Athletes/teams of comparable badminton ability and experience (beginner/recreational, intermediate, advanced) will compete in round robin pools of 3-5 people depending on the number of entries.
Round Robin pools and awards will be established as outlined below.
- Pool of 3, 4 or 5: Gold and silver
- Group of 6: Two pools created and award gold, silver and bronze; For play-offs, 1st vs 1st, 2nd vs 2nd, 3rd vs 3rd. Gold to the winner of 1st vs 1st, silver to loser of 1st vs 1st and bronze to winner of 2nd vs 2nd.
- Group of 7: Two pools created and award gold, silver and bronze; For play-offs, 1st vs 1st, 2nd vs 2nd, 3rd vs 3rd. Gold to the winner of 1st vs 1st, silver to loser of 1st vs 1st and bronze to winner of 2nd vs 2nd.
- Group of 8: Two pools created and award gold, silver and bronze; For play-offs, 1st vs 1st, 2nd vs 2nd, Gold to the winner of 1st vs 1st, silver to loser of 1st vs 1st
- Group of 9: Three pools created and award gold, silver and bronze, play-offs are comprised of the 1st place finisher in each pool. These three then compete in a round robin to determine gold, silver and bronze.

On the fact sheet, please note Badminton NL's new annual individual membership ($13 for adults, $8 for juniors) and insurance ($12) fees, as well as Badminton NL's new feather shuttle policy of one feather provided per person per EVENT.
