Badminton Newfoundland and Labrador sanctions Junior, Senior and Open competitive tournaments. As well this year we plan to introduce Badminton Bonanza, an event geared torward grades 4-6. Stay tuned throughout the year for more info.
The following age classifications are in effect for the 2011-12 season.
- to be eligible for U12 - all participants must be born in 2000 or later; ie. under 12 on Dec. 31, 2011
- to be eligible for U14 - all participants must be born in 1998 or later; ie. under 14 on Dec. 31, 2011
- to be eligible for U16 - all participants must be born in 1996 or later; ie. under 16 on Dec. 31, 2011
- to be eligible for U19 - all participants must be born in 1993 or later; ie. under 19 on Dec. 31, 2011
Tournament planned this season consist of Open events, Junior tournaments, as well as Junior and Senior Provincial Championships. BNL will be incoporating an LTAD approach to all events.
- For an Open event all athletes, regardless of age, will be categorized as Beginner/Recreational, Intermediate or Advanced
- For Junior Tournament/Junior Provincial Championship, the age categories of U14, U16, U19 will be used where athletes compete in pool play
- For Senior tournament/Senior Provincial Championships all athletes compete in pool play

These Ability Categories are intended as a guideline only. Each entrant assumes sole responsibility for entry into an appropriate skill category.
