2016-17 St. John’s Open

Due to low registration numbers BNL has decided to cancel the event.  BNL apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.

Badminton Newfoundland and Labrador is pleased to hold the 2016-17 St. John’s Open December 10, 2016 at Prince of Wales Collegiate, Paton Street, St. John’s, NL.

ELIGIBILITY

Adults and juniors age 16 and over. Juniors under 16 may be accepted with the recommendation of a coach and approval by the Badminton NL Board.

FORMAT

  • There will be two divisions: Advanced (competitive) and Intermediate.

  • Events will include: Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

  • In the case of insufficient entries, events may be cancelled or combined at the discretion of BNL and/or the Tournament Director.

  • All events will use a round robin of 3-5 people unless numbers of entries make this impractical. At the discretion of BNL or the Tournament Director a different format may be used.

ENTRY SUBMISSION

Entry for each athlete/doubles team must include:

  • Division: Advanced or Intermediate

  • Events (male or female singles, male or female doubles, mixed)

  • Email address (to send competition and schedule updates)

  • Late entries will only be accommodated if the draw/schedule has not been completed. No entries will be accepted on the day of the tournament.

    Note: You cannot enter the same event in two divisions, e.g. you can’t play Men’s Singles in Advanced as well as Men’s Singles in Intermediate. You can however, play different events in different divisions, for example: Advanced Singles but Intermediate Doubles.

SHUTTLE POLICY: Players are to provide their own feather shuttles or purchase them on site for $2.50 each.  If both teams or opponents agree, Yonex nylon shuttles may be used.

FEES
Cash or Cheque to be collected by Badminton NL at the event.

  • 1 event-$15.00; 2 events-$20.00; 3 events-$25.00
  • Must have a BNL/Badminton Canada Membership
    • Three memberships are available Regional, Provincial and National
    • Please review the membership options so as to choose the most appropriate one.
    • Regional Membership – $10
      • Insurance through Sport NL for all BNL tournaments
      • Play in ONE BNL tournament.
      • Eligible to participate in NL Games Qualifier and NL Games
      • Regular updates on BNL programming and events
      • Provincial rankings (maintained by BNL)
    • Provincial Membership – $25
      • Insurance through Sport NL for all BNL and Atlantic tournaments
      • Play in ALL BNL tournaments, and Atlantic (Series and Open) tournaments
      • Eligible to participate in NL Games Qualifier and NL Games
      • Players eligible for Provincial Team and Canada Games selection(provided BNL criteria is met)
      • Regular updates on BNL programming and events
      • Provincial rankings (maintained by BNL) and Atlantic rankings (maintained by Badminton NS)
    • National Membership – $40
      • Insurance through Sport NL for all BNL, Atlantic and National tournaments
      • Play in all BNL, Atlantic (Series and Open), and National (sanctioned by Badminton Canada) tournaments
      • ELigible to participate in NL Games Qualifier and NL Games
      • Players eligible for Provincial Team and Canada Games selection(provided BNL criteria is met)
      • Regular updates on BNL programming and events
      • Provincial rankings (maintained by BNL), Atlantic rankings (maintained by Badminton NS), and National rankings (maintained by Badminton Canada)
  • All fees must be paid before the start of play.

START
Registration and warm-up begins at 8:30 am with Singles play starting at 9:00am

All entries must be submitted via the Online Tournament Registration System and participants are responsible for their own registration.
